The Virtualization Technology Users Group (VTUG), the only platform-independent virtualization user group, today announced its expansion to the West Coast, along with its first Silicon Valley conference, the Silicon Valley Slam 2013. Free of charge, the day-long event will take place on August 1, 2013 at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose, Calif. and will bring together industry experts, end users, vendors and services providers to discuss how organizations can best optimize heterogeneous virtual environments for server virtualization, cloud computing, management and storage.

The Silicon Valley Slam will focus on all major platform, cloud, management, storage and related technologies, featuring keynotes from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services. Speakers include Symon Perriman, Microsoft corporate senior technical evangelist covering private cloud, virtualization and system center, and Simone Brunozzi, senior technology evangelist at Amazon Web Services, who has vast experience in cloud infrastructure, distributed and large-scale systems, virtualization, backup and disaster recovery. The afternoon breakout sessions will let attendees dive deep into technical content and demos from Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, VMware, HotLink, Veeam, RightScale, Dell-WYSE, SafeNet, Pure Storage and more. Attendees can network with peers, vendors and industry experts during the day and attend a late afternoon reception.

“The single platform virtualization infrastructure is a thing of the past. Today, IT administrators are leveraging various virtualization platforms to reduce costs and manage workloads. VTUG’s goal is to educate and provide the latest industry technical content and information to make informed decisions about what and how to implement next-generation virtualization technology,” said Chris Harney, VTUG president and cofounder. “The Silicon Valley Slam will kick-off our West Coast expansion and help foster the local network of virtualization experts that are examining and implementing the future of virtualization and hybrid computing models.”

As the only virtualization user group that is platform-agnostic, the VTUG expansion will provide Silicon Valley members with the cross-platform technical content, information and education on virtualization platforms from all major vendors including VMware, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Citrix and Red Hat, as well as complementary technologies in system management, storage virtualization and backup. In aggregating all the virtualization technical content in one place, members use VTUG services to improve productivity, reduce the number of hours doing research and readily find relevant content for critical technical projects.

Oded Haner, chief technology officer of HotLink and the Silicon Valley VTUG leader, said, “As a long-time CIO, I spent a tremendous amount of time with my IT team collecting, evaluating and discussing virtualization and cloud technologies with our peers. One of the key problems was sorting through all the marketing hype. VTUG has a strong track record of coalescing technical content from all the key virtualization players, from the Fortune 500 to leading-edge startups, so IT professionals have a single place to go for the best platform-independent virtualization information available.”
